Born on November 19th, 1971 in Burnaby, BC, Bianca Peters (ne Hall) was born into a family enriched with history from the start. Bianca is a first generation Canadian raised in West Vancouver, BC by her mother and grandmother. Her mother, who was educated in Britain, came by her passion for history honestly, traveling around the world by bus, boat, train, cow, and plane from 1969 to 1970. Her mother gave Bianca world history lessons at bedtime and sent Bianca on several trips around the world as a teen feeling travel was the best education for a person’s development.

Helmut hails from Hamilton, Ontario where he graduated from McMaster University with a Master of Arts degree in history. He also holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Toronto and after graduation he embarked on a successful high school teaching career, including a stint at the Brock University Faculty of Education, in St. Catharines.

Mike was born in Whitehorse in 1951. Mike’s mother was the daughter of a pioneer family from Scotland and Ireland (McQuillan/Cowie) that settled in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Her father was a logging road builder in the 1920’s to 1950’s. Her brothers followed their father’s footsteps into logging. Mike relates to the forestry sector of our community, given his grandfather and uncles involvement with logging in the Comox, Cumberland, Lake Cowichan, and Campbell River communities.

Betty is retired and living in sunny Brackendale. Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, she lived in Vancouver for 30 years before moving to Squamish in 1991. She is Past President of Branch 277 Squamish Legion and is currently the Treasuer and Poppy Chair. She is Secretary of Between Shfts theatre as well as being active behind the curtain on productions. Betty is looking forward to helping build the gorundwork for the SHS museum and taking part in presenting historical information at the many venues Squamish offer.

Lesley spent her first five years living in Squamish and in Pemberton in forest fire season, as her father worked for the BC forest Service at the time. Her parents moved to Chilliwack, BC, but she was a frequent visitor to Squamish over the years.

Spen came to Squamish when he was two weeks old in 1948. His Grandparents, Laura and Andy Sullivan, had purchased the Squamish Hotel, now called the Ocean Port, a couple of years prior. His grandparents, parents, and aunt and uncle (Lil and Alex Sullivan) ran the hotel until the 1960’s, then Spen and his cousin, Dan Sullivan, took over the reins until the early 80’s. Having lived here his entire life, Spen has been a Realtor since 1984.

"Chexw min wa halth" (How are you doing?) "Min hoy ta unce Tsawaysia Spukwus" (My name is Tsawaysia Spukwus).

It is with this tradtional Squamish Nation salutation that Alice Guss, who was born and raised in Squamish, greets the community. She is the great-great grandaughter of hereditary Chief Joe Capilano and was honoured to receive her paternal grandmother's ancestral name, Tsawaysia, in October 1991. She also carries Spukwus, which means bald eagle in the Squamish language.
