Bianca Peters, President
Born on November 19th, 1971 in Burnaby, BC, Bianca Peters (ne Hall) was born into a family enriched with history from the start. Bianca is a first generation Canadian raised in West Vancouver, BC by her mother and grandmother. Her mother, who was educated in Britain, came by her passion for history honestly, traveling around the world by bus, boat, train, cow, and plane from 1969 to 1970. Her mother gave Bianca world history lessons at bedtime and sent Bianca on several trips around the world as a teen feeling travel was the best education for a person’s development. At dinner time, her Polish born grandmother would recount living in war torn Europe from 1939-1945 and her after life as an immigrant in Austria, Britain, and finally, Canada.
Upon graduation from Sentinel Secondary School in 1989, Bianca studied Marketing and Sales at Langara College, received an Associate Arts degree at Capilano College, and pursued a History Degree at UBC. After taking time out to raise her son, Jacksen, Bianca went back to school to study Television Broadcasting and Journalism at BCIT, graduating with Honours in December 2004. She began work as a producer and host for My Squamish on Shaw TV in January 2005 and did freelance writing, filming, and promotions through her Squamish based company, Chateau Peters Media. She is currently on contract as Community Relations for the Sea-to-Sky Highway Improvement Project.
Bianca has lived in Squamish since 1998 and loves the community dearly. She revived the Squamish Historical Society in direct response to the momentous transitions occurring in the community after the announcement of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in July 2003. Covering the closure announcement of Woodfibre in December 2005 for Shaw TV, she recognized the dramatic impact it would have on the community and her campaign to collect, preserve, and document the history of the Squamish Valley began. She has been president of the SHS since its inception in the spring of 2006.
Bianca’s goal is to treasure Squamish’s diverse background, eventually culminating in the building of a museum and archives to savour and showcase the community’s past. Bianca believes very strongly that the SHS be a collaborative community effort, and encourages everyone to contribute their ideas, stories, photos, relics, and passion for Squamish.
Bianca chose the location for this photo in honour of her dogs Jake, Oscar, and Ben and to their many inspiring walks there over the years. This photo was taken on the Spit Loop Trail.
