Spen Hinde, Director

Spen came to Squamish when he was two weeks old in 1948. His Grandparents, Laura and Andy Sullivan, had purchased the Squamish Hotel, now called the Ocean Port, a couple of years prior. His grandparents, parents, and aunt and uncle (Lil and Alex Sullivan) ran the hotel until the 1960’s, then Spen and his cousin, Dan Sullivan, took over the reins until the early 80’s. Having lived here his entire life, Spen has been a Realtor since 1984.

Family, fishing, and cooking are Spen’s passions. He joined the Squamish Historical Society to contribute more to the community, with hopes that some day they will have an historical museum here in Squamish. He has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 35 years and currently enjoys his membership with Eagle Watch as a volunteer interpreter. Although taking a break for a short while, he was involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters for well over 20 years, serving as a Big Brother, Mentor, President, and Director of the organization.

Spen’s photo was taken in front of his maternal grandparent’s home, which was built in the mid 1940’s and still exists across from the Hotel. He is standing by the Rhododendron tree, which is quite well know in Squamish and was planted by his Grandmother in the early 1950’s.
