Film Presentation Saturday Nov. 12

The Squamish Historical Society is honoured to host Don Grant, archivist of the Hollyburn Heritage Society, who will present his film "Hugh Aikens: Mountain Photographer" on Saturday, November 12 at 8 pm at the Brackendale Art Gallery. Admission is by donation. For information about Aikens and the film please see attached.

The Squamish Historical Society Pays Tribute to John Drenka

Friends and relatives of John Drenka gathered on Saturday April 16 at the Sea to Sky Hotel to honour the elder statesman of the forestry industry in Squamish.
After some opening remarks from our president Bianca Peters, Mayor Gardner and our local MLA Joan McIntyre paid tribute to the guest of honour followed by the premiere of The Legend of John Drenka, an original SHS video documentary. Following the video presentation members of the audience took advantage of the open mic format to toast, and in some cases roast JD.

Join us on Saturday April 16 at the Sea to Sky Hotel @ 1 pm for a tribute to John Drenka the elder statesman of the logging industry in Squamish.

March 10: SHS Membership Meeting: Francine Erickson on Woodfibre

The next Squamish Historical Society meeting will be held this Thursday, March 10th at 7 pm with guest speaker Francine Erickson who will be speaking about the history of Woodfibre, her Woodfibre Facebook Group, and the upcoming Woodfibre reunion that will be taking place in July 2011 at the CN Roundhouse at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park.

The meeting will take place at the Squamish Arts Council building (AKA the old Squamish Chamber of Commerce office at the end of Cleveland Avenue, across the street from the August Jack Hotel, downtown Squamish). Everyone is welcome.
