The Squamish Historical Society was founded in 2006. Our mission is to collect, preserve, document and showcase the history of Squamish, BC and the surrounding areas of the Howe Sound. The Squamish Historical Society has been involved in producing and participating in several events since 2006 including the annual Brackendale Fall Fair, hosting film nights and presentations at the Squamish Adventure Centre theatre, Brackendale Art Gallery, West Coast Railway Heritage Park ,the Squamish Legion and most recently presenting the inaugural two-day Squamish Culture & Heritage Festival, at Quest University Canada. Archives & Collections
Since 2006, the Squamish Historical Society has been collecting artifacts, photos, stories and films. Black Tusk Storage has generously sponsored the SHS storage unit since 2009. Please contact us if you have photos you wish to be digitzied or have a historical item you would like to donate. The Squamish Museum
The Wilkie Building was donated to the Squamish Historical Society by the West Coast Railway Heritage Park in 2009. It is a labour of love, and future museum of the Squamish Historical Society. Located at the eastern top loop of the mini-rail tracks, it has been moved and restored through volunteer man-power led by Mike Jenson, Park volunteers, grants from the Squamish Community Foundation, private sponsors and donations of material from local businesses.

Don Behrner Memorial Award
On June 2, 2014, the Squamish Historical Society and the Squamish Firefighters Association, presented Howe Sound Secondary Grade Twelve graduating student Erika Carney with the Don Behrner Memorial Award in the amount of $750. Don Behrner, a long-time resident and active volunteer with both the SHS and the SFFA, passed away in June 2010. In his memory, the Don Behrner Memorial Award was created. The next reciepinet will be announced May 25, 2015.
The Squamish Historical Society is grateful to have super sponsors and generous friends in Squamish and beyond. Last year's Squamish Culture & Heritage Festival was supported entirely by a grant and sponsorship, while the restoration of the Wilkie Building has been accomplished through grants, sponsors and volunteer time and effort.
